Jon Potts’ career in construction is a testament to his passion, determination, and adaptability. His journey began during his high school summers, working for a family friend as an electrician in residential and custom home construction.
After a few years, he decided to pursue the apprenticeship program at the ABA, where he interviewed with companies participating in the program, one of those companies being DP Electric. After interviewing with DPE and learning about the culture and training initiatives, Jon joined DP Electric as an apprentice. After completing his apprenticeship, Jon became a journeyman.
A position opened in the office for a project engineer and Jon jumped at the opportunity to continue his career path towards project management. Starting as a Project Engineer, he quickly advanced to the role of an Assistant Project Manager, and he is now well on his way to achieving the title of Project Manager, having recently obtained his Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
Jon’s love for the construction industry is noticeable. When asking Jon what he loves most about working in the construction industry, he replied, “being a Journeyman Electrician I enjoy working with my hands, seeing the results of projects and feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment that is hard to compare to anything else.” His transition to a management role has allowed him to support the field teams with the knowledge he once acquired through hands-on experience. His story is a testament to the diverse opportunities available in the construction industry, and it highlights the satisfaction that comes from both building with your hands and managing the projects.
